Craftsmanship Overcomes Challenges, Technology Empowers Cooperation – GDE Joins Forces with Partners to Optimise the Application Standards for Seismic Design in Morocco Edit Date:2026/06/12
Recently, the GDE design team, taking the lead and working jointly with the client, local Moroccan regulatory authorities, local engineering and technical personnel, and the design software R&D team, successfully optimised the implementation approach for Morocco’s RPS2011 seismic design code, efficiently resolving critical structural design challenges for the project. With deep technical expertise accumulated over years of overseas experience and a wealth of international project track record, GDE’s team delivered high level technical solutions that significantly reduced construction investment costs for the client, earning unanimous praise from all parties.
During the design phase of overseas engineering projects, differences between national technical codes and local operational practices are a common challenge hindering project progress. During the seismic design phase of the Moroccan project, the GDE team keenly identified that local code requirements were extremely stringent, and coupled with long established local practical conventions, following the conventional approach would not only constrain efficient project implementation but also keep construction costs persistently high, severely eroding the project’s investment returns.
Faced with this challenge, the GDE design team fully embodied a spirit of craftsmanship and excellence – neither blindly following convention nor sticking rigidly to established rules – and proactively took the initiative to break through the technical deadlock. The team systematically drew upon seismic design theories and experience with multiple national codes accumulated from numerous overseas projects, conducted multiple rounds of online technical exchanges, and travelled to the project site for face to face discussions. They carried out detailed refined modelling and comparative calculations across multiple alternatives, while also engaging the software developer’s official team for independent data verification, using robust and solid scientific data to underpin the technical justification. With all parties adhering to the principles of rigour, pragmatism, win win cooperation, and pooling of wisdom, they finally established a unified implementation standard for the RPS2011 code.
Thanks to this technical breakthrough, the project – while fully satisfying the safety requirements of the code and local operational practices – directly saved the client a substantial amount of construction investment cost, significantly improved overall project efficiency, and ensured steady project progress. The client sent a formal letter of commendation, and the Moroccan local industry authorities and authoritative technical institutions also gave high recognition, strongly demonstrating GDE’s solid technical capability and cross cultural coordination skills in overseas engineering design and construction.
This transnational technical collaboration serves as another example of GDE’s commitment to customer centric values, deep cultivation of overseas markets, and value creation through technology. Over the years, GDE has continuously studied multiple national technical codes, honed its professional expertise, and successfully built landmark projects in several overseas markets. Looking ahead, GDE will further leverage its experience advantages in overseas projects, continuously strengthen its high level technical problem solving capabilities, offer better solutions and create greater value for global clients, and continue to help Chinese design and Chinese construction make their mark on the world stage.
